This session, facilitated by Virginia Literacy Partnership coaches, is designed for Grades 4–8 administrators and literacy champions—including instructional coaches, specialists, and lead teachers—who are working to strengthen literacy across all content areas. As students engage with increasingly complex texts in science, social studies, math, and ELA, content teachers must be equipped with strategies to support access to those texts. This session will explore why complex, grade-level materials matter for student learning and how to support instruction that makes those texts accessible to all learners. Leaders will examine high-impact routines that build the language and thinking skills students need to navigate academic content, including practices that develop vocabulary, background knowledge, sentence understanding, and reasoning. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of what literacy-rich instruction looks like across disciplines and how to support teachers in embedding these practices into daily instruction.
