This session, facilitated by Virginia Literacy Partnership coaches, is designed for Grades 4–8 ELA administrators and literacy champions (ICs, specialists, coaches, lead teachers) committed to strengthening core instruction. We’ll explore why high-quality, evidence-based Tier 1 instruction is essential for student success. Using examples from core curriculum materials, the session will highlight what effective comprehension instruction looks like in practice and how to use scaffolds to support student engagement and access to grade-level content. Leaders will leave with a clearer understanding of what they should be looking for in classrooms and actionable strategies to ensure every student benefits from strong, equitable core instruction.
